Research and Planning: Contents Page Analysis

Genre: R&B/Hip-hop. This is shown by the only image on the page (Ciara) who is well known for her R&B/Hip-hop music. We also see this by the articles and features of the magazine, shown on the right hand side of the page. The key words that stand out are Features and Fashion, this shows that image in the R&B/Hip-hop world is major is almost as important as the music or maybe even as important.

Target Audience: The target audience is people who are interested in the genre of music, and most likely elder teenagers/younger adults. This is because the image being portrayed is quite powerful and provocative at the same time. This also relates to the gender, the magazine shows more male-appealed colours and Ciara is posing provocatively which appeals to the male audience. However, it also looks as if it is suitable for women as well as she is wearing clothes women who like this genre of music would most likely want to wear, and she also maintains that powerful aura she seems to have which is more appealing to women.

Layout: The layout is very slick and clean, using greys, white, black and creams/beige. There is only one image on the page which makes this artist the main focus, and most likely the main selling point. The features are position to the right hand side of the page and positioned slightly diagonal which makes it more interesting. The 'contents' title is very bold, and it uses a unique way of space on how it is placed - this makes the magazine more interesting, even with little detail like making the text scrabbled. There is also a giant 'V' representing the magazine title 'VIBE'.

Representation: Ciara is represented, as said before, very provocatively but powerful. She is placed at a long shot as we can see her whole body, and it is suitable for both genres. Her facial expressions are quite strong, showing her dominance and power, representing the genre of music as everyone seems to be in competition. The use of costume is used to be revealing and sexual, but also fashionable which is suitable to both genders.

Media Language: The image is took at a long shot, and as Ciara is lay down we can say that her posture is showing her confidence, and also her elongated legs in the air add height to her which act as her confidence and dominance.

Research and Planning: My Target Audience

Age: My magazine would be specifically aimed at people aged 17/18.
Gender: My magazine would be aimed at both genders for people who appreciate RnB/Hip-Hop music.
Occupation: I'd say the Target audience would be in College/starting University. This will be took into consideration for the price. However because the genre is so wide spread there isn't a specific occupation.
Class: Working class to Middle Class. However Higher Class could also buy the magazine due to the Genre.
Wealth: I'd say it would be aimed at people that could possibly have a part-time job, so I would price mine decently.
Interests: RnB/Hip-Hop Music.
Outlook for future: As the magazine is aimed at students, they should be inspired to become something and have a better life.
How are you going to reach them?: I'm going to take into consideration the Price (due to the students maybe earning a little, but not a lot) and also the colours to represent both genders. I want the magazine to also be quite controversial connecting to the genre, but still slick and mature.

Research and Planning: Masthead Design

Research and Planning: Music Magazine Analysis 2

This magazine is also an RnB/Hip-Hop magazine. The Masthead 'KING' is very powerful and represents a male audience. And also, like 'Vibe' Magazine, the woman on the front covers up the masthead showing it is quite a popular magazine in the RnB/Hip-Hop world. We can tell that it is an RnB/Hip-Hop Magazine by the artists named on the front, and also the 'hood fab' label in the corner represents the genre too. The image on the front is of Keyshia Cole placed medium long shot and her pose is very controversial and revealing which shows its aimed at more of the male audience.

Research and Planning: Music Magazine Analysis 1

The genre of music for the magazine cover is RnB/Hip-Hop which is what I want my magazine to be like. The Masthead 'Vibe' is very urban, relating to the type of magazine. The Masthead's font isn't very clear, because Ciara's head covers it up. This shows that the magazine is well known on the market because at first glance you know what magazine it is, without making the title clear. The image on the cover is quite controversial as she doesn't seem to have much clothes on except from her shoes, which is suitable for the genre as it is quite a controversial genre. The artist (Ciara) is the main interview/article in the magazine, shown by her being the only image on the front. She is positioned in a long shot, showing her full body crouched down. The slight low angle shot makes her look dominant, which is relevant in the genre of music because its all about power and ''who's the best''.

Ciara is being represented as a powerful woman, but her posture shows her being quite insecure but powerful at the same time, this also relates to the article title ''I'm not gonna hold back, too much'' as although she seams powerful and dominant, she is still going to hold back that little bit and that is shown through the image. This makes the artist seam very true, which relates to the genre of music. Using the 3 colour rule (Red, White and Black) it looks calm and soothing (black and white), but with a loud undertone (red). The red colour makes the magazine stand out more, making it more eye-catching.

The target audience for this magazine is for fans of RnB/Hip-Hop music. I would say the age range would be for 14/15 year old's up to the age of about 30. The usual magazine is unisex, but this issue seams more for females.
